Checking on The Dubious Heir’s First Draft

Halloween and NaNoWri Mo is right around the corner, along with the first draft of The Dubious Heir.

Fall tends to be my most productive time of the year. I don’t know why, but many times the words just seem to fall into place. I’m not sure how many edits this book will be subject to. So far, my December release deadline still sets.

I’m getting pretty excited too. Not just about the release date, but also by how this story is coming together. I was having a little bit of trouble with it in the beginning, but after I had let the story stew for a little while, I had my ah-ha moments. I love the ah-ha moments when the story line seems to fall flat and then I suddenly think up a curve ball for the characters.

I keep trying to think Game of Thrones while writing this. Not to copy the story line, just to remind myself that when writing fiction, anything can go. And the old adage – everyone wants something. That includes bad guys and good guys. My goal is to see if I can help everyone achieve or gain that which they want – or get what they deserve.

Karma =

Killing

Annoying

Rulers

Maliciously

At-will

I’m not sure if that was what George Martin was doing while he was writing his series, but it seems to have worked for me.

So for now on, if the character is annoying, then consider them to have a big target on their back saying kill me…
